In ceramics, though, namako-yū (海鼠釉) means “namako glaze” or “sea-cucumber glaze.” It is a traditional glaze name associated especially with deep blue tones, often with dark blue, lighter bluish or whitish mottling or flowing effects. The name comes from the glaze's resemblance to the appearance of a sea cucumber.
