Registration Information

Registration for this special workshop will open in phases for Study Group supporters and members before any remaining seats are released to the public.

The price currently displayed on this page is a temporary placeholder amount. Eligible participants will receive a private registration code by email when their registration window opens. That code will adjust the workshop fee to the standard registration price of $165.

If seats remain after member registration periods conclude, public registration will open automatically.

Due to the limited number of seats available, early registration access may vary based on membership and participation status within the Study Group community.

Spend a full day studying Ohara Ikebana with visiting guest instructor Jose Salcedo, Ohara Sub-Grand Master, in his first visit to Central Ohio.

This full-day workshop includes:

  • Morning lesson
  • Lunch
  • Afternoon lesson
  • Instruction and critique from Jose-sensei

Participants will study in either the Foundations or Advanced Studies group while observing all instruction and critiques throughout the day.

Workshop themes for Day 2 focus on advanced Hana-isho forms and traditional Ohara expressions, including One-Row Form and Radial Form for the Foundations Group, and Rimpa-cho Ikebana in one container and Traditional Landscape Moribana for the Advanced Studies Group.

This workshop is open to students of all Ohara levels.

This special full-day workshop offers students the opportunity to study directly with an Ohara Sub-Grand Master in an intimate, hands-on learning environment.

Time & Place

The lesson will start promptly at 10:30 AM. Please arrive at 10:15 AM so you’ll be set up and ready to start learning at 10:30.

The lesson is held at the Yokoso Center, 1175 Old Henderson Rd, Columbus, Ohio 43220.

The day will conclude around 4:30–5:00 PM depending on critiques and discussion.

Workshop Groups

Participants will be assigned to one of two workshop groups based on certificate level and prior study:

Foundations
For students building confidence in core Ohara forms, techniques, and curriculum styles.

Advanced Studies
For students ready to explore more advanced curriculum, technique, and expressive interpretation.

Participants will observe all demonstrations and critiques throughout the day regardless of assigned group.

Day 2 Themes

Foundations Group

  • One-Row Form (Hana-isho Tenkai Narabu-katachi)
  • Radial Form (Hana-isho Tenkai Hiraku-katachi)

Advanced Studies Group

  • Rimpa-cho Ikebana
  • Landscape Moribana Traditional Method (Shakei Moribana Yoshiki-hon-i)

Workshop content may be adjusted slightly based on seasonal material availability.

What To Bring

  • Flower scissors or clippers
  • Hand towel
  • Notebook and pen
  • Small bucket or box to transport flowers home

Important Workshop Notes

As we get closer to August, registered participants will be assigned to a workshop group and will receive a short survey asking about:

  • Plant allergies
  • Food allergies
  • Lunch selection
  • Emergency contact information
  • Whether you can bring your own container, kenzan, or tools
  • Whether you will need to borrow supplies

Jose Salcedo
First Term Master, Sub-Grand Master, Ohara School of Ikebana

Jose Salcedo is one of the most respected senior Ohara teachers in North America, with nearly four decades of study and teaching experience.

He is widely admired for his encouraging teaching style, thoughtful critiques, and ability to help students deepen both their technical skills and artistic expression.

Cancellation Policy

Because floral materials and catering must be ordered in advance, refunds for cancellations received after July 10, 2026 may not be possible unless the seat can be filled from the waiting list.
